LEGIONELLA PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Legionella bacterium exists in natural environments and the use of water in human activities (artificial systems) enhances its development, which is why it is essential to carry out a Risk Assessment and its surveillance. Prevention and control measures must be implemented.

We carried out, under Portuguese Decree-Law n.º 52/2018, which defines the Legionella disease prevention and control regime, Risk Assessments and the consequent Prevention and Control Plan in industrial facilities.

Under the legislation, it is necessary to evaluate and define the plan for:

  • Hot and cold water distribution networks;

  • Collective cooling systems: cooling towers, evaporative condensers, humidifiers and air conditioning systems;

  • Individual cooling systems: air conditioning / split and small evaporative cooling;

  • Other systems: fire fighting systems, showers and eye washers, sprinkler irrigation systems, fire extinguishing nets, ornamental fountains, washing vehicles, ships, etc.
